Finding a "free" service is nearly impossible. Your only going to get what you pay for. Most "free" services only offer your basic information.
Get creative and use the resources that are available on the net:
1) Social Sites: Myspace, Youtube, Facebook etc.
2) County Record Sites – Not all counties will have a records site. Google the county in question to find out.
3) use a free site such as http://www.peepsite.info to start your preliminary search.
