I tried to trace somebody a couple of years ago. Every site I tried wanted payment for giving out info beyond supplying "yes, we found the person you're looking for (at least it could be the person you're looking for, but you won't know until you pay us and it's tough if it's not the right person 'cause you already paid us)". That said, when I was looking at the search engine listings, I noticed a charity that traces relatives for an optional donation. Yep just found it again - The Salvation Army no less.
