Do tattoos Hurt? How much do they cost? Are they stupid? How old do you have to be? Will my boss allow it?
Seriously, stop asking these types of questions! Use the search feature, many people before you have already asked. No one here can tell you how much it will hurt you. It’s a tattoo, it’s needles piercing your skin while the artist works out a design on your body.
Pricing? Not many people here tattoo. Damn, no one can give you a price here, so stop asking. What happening is people are giving you what they think it will cost, and when you get to the shop, you’ll be pissed and say, I heard it would only cost this much, and the artist will send you away!!!
Don’t ask what others think. It doesn’t matter to anyone but you. Why ask complete strangers if it’s a good idea? Do you want it? Do you think it is? If so, get it. Many people get on here and put us down for having tattoos, who cares about their opinions, they just want points.
And really, why do so many people ask how old you have to be? Enough said.
Employment varies by job, boss, location, etc. No one can tell you how your boss will react or how it will affect your career. Ask your boss, not us!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a shop owner and have been tattooing for 14 years. I started looking around here to help people out. I enjoy when people ask for help with a healing tattoo, or for ideas about how to make a certain tattoo work. Be more creative.
Sorry to get on my soapbox, but, come on, if you have a question so general, see if anyone else has asked it!!!

amen.
yahoo needs to make the search bar bigger. its right in the middle of the page and people still somehow freaking miss the thing
asking "does it hurt?" should automaticly subtract 20 points from the person who asked point total. same thing with pricing
i dont get why anyone asks for opinions on future ink on here because im willing to bet 99% of people will never even meet that person outside of yahoo, so why are complete strangers opinions important in anyway?
ive just started answering "go to a tattoo shop in your area and ask them" to every one of those questions.
whoo, glad we got that outta the way! btw, i totally agree with you!
Yeah right on!!
Hahaha I totally opened this expecting a 15 year old to be asking all these questions.
In their defense though, most people don’t know how tattoo pricing works. I didn’t have a clue before I got mine and asked around on here – it did help me.
Asking what other people think bothers me though – it’s the same deal with piercings. "What piercing should I get?" is probably the most annoying question I have seen on here (next to the "Am I pretty?" ones, of course).
Amen!
I saw your question title and was about to get on MY soapbox! So the rant was a refreshing surprise!
Often I’ve thought this board should have a disclaimer at the top, for tattoo virgins:
- Yes, tattoos hurt. How much? It depends on your tolerance, your artist, and your placement. Please ask no further questions, refer to Google.
- No, *insert stupid method* will not work in preventing tattoo pain. If you are too much of a wuss to handle the small amount of pain, forget tattoos, try henna, and for God’s sake don’t have children if you think that’s bad.
- We cannot price a tattoo for you. This is what your tattoo artist is for. They don’t bite.
- If you really need to ask strangers to justify whether you should get a tattoo, then you probably should not be getting a tattoo.
- If you ask strangers to come up with a meaningful quote or design for you, then it is not meaningful to you, so try and dredge up some of that imagination God gave you that must be buried somewhere deep in that skull of yours.
- We cannot tell you how old you need to be to get a tattoo if you don’t state where you live, because laws vary. But even if you do state where you live, why should we Google it for you when it’s only a click away from yourself?
- No, getting a tattoo at 13 is not a good idea.
- Giving yourself a home tattoo is a brilliant idea, if you enjoy butchered skin and serious infections that is!
ARGHH
Do you think if we wrote to the Y!A mods they’d stick it on??
Haha!
Do you feel better that you got that out of your system?
I was honestly confused when I read this..I thought it was a question!
Actually, people on here ARE tattoo artists. A good portion of the top contributors on here are tattoo artists themselves.
The reason some people might ask how old you have to be is because in different states and shops there are different rules. Some artists will allow parental consent before you are 18 and some won’t touch you with a needle if you aren’t.
People CAN give you a ballparked price range on your tattoo. No, it may not be as accurate as of course different artists will charge different prices. But i’m sure it would be nice for a person to know ABOUT how much they will need to save up.
As for the rest, a lot of people are ignorant about tattoos, their consequences, meanings, and honestly, some askers I answer questions for aren’t even remotely ready for a tattoo. But you know whats great about this site? People like us who despite think that the question is completely ridiculous, will answer and enlighten them free of charge. All we can do to help stop it is educate them about tattooing and Yahoo! Answers.
Hope this helps
YYAAAYY YOU well said
I couldnt have said it better myself. Finally someone on here got all of these stupid questions out of the way. I cant believe that people don’t know how to use the search bar, and that people think others opinions should matter when choosing what tattoo to get. Thanks
