Hi,
I am a junior in high school and have just recently begun the college search. I have a lot of friends who have already been accepted to various prestigious institutions (they’re seniors) and as I am looking at my stats I am worried that I am not as smart as I thought I was. My freshman year I didn’t really care, and as a result some of those grades were good but not fantastic.

My class rank is 15/163. My GPA (unweighted) is 3.8. I have yet to take my SATs but usually test very well. I have so far taken one AP course and plan to take a couple more next year.

Listen, I understand that these numbers are better than most. But I have always prided myself on being smart and someone who would go on to one of the best colleges. I am worried that I am not smart enough for that. And as soon as I am not smart enough, there goes my identity. I have always prided myself on not being cool or popular but being smart. Now, I am afraid, that is no longer true.

Some of my friends are applying to places like Brown and BC and Northeastern. I worry that even if I do get into those places the cost will be unmanageable (I don’t qualify for need-based aid, but I’m not loaded either).

Essentially, I’m worried that I am not as smart as I once though I was and am worried that other people will go on to bigger and better things as I sit on the sideline simply because I didn’t put in an extraordinary amount of effort my early high school years.

Please help me get some sleep!!!

I was looking up TARCEVA (erlotinib) which is a pill used for advanced pancreatic and non-small cell lung cancer patients. It may add some months of survival time in a minority of people with these very serious malignancies. It seems difficult to find out how much a month of treatment costs. I’m sure it varies, but in this age of health care cost consciousness, this information should be readily accessible. Perhaps I’m not search correctly for this information.
I realize the thinking that "no cost is too great to buy some time," but this is the attitude that may allow pharmaceutical companies to charge excessively without some measure of profit control – greed seeming to be epidemic these days.
"SuperVib" found this easily enough. There is high variability. But his site lists generic prices. I think this information should be included with the product information which is where I searched. The expense might be considered a "side effect." An oncology nurse friend tells me it is more like 00 per month in the U.S. – cost to patient. That’s 3 per pill. If it never cures and helps only a small fraction of people, is this cost effective in a cost conscious nation? Just playing devil’s advocate here. I realize everyone in these desperate situations will want this medication, and I would too. But does it really need to be so expensive?
"notalone.." knows first hand about this. The drug company programs to provide meds for non-insured people is a very good reform. I do realize the high research costs involved to come up with new meds. I don’t know if there is any regulation of the charges that drug company executives decide upon. It has become more difficult to trust corporate executives with recent revelations in the news.
Note that President Obama and White House Budget Director Peter Orszag have repeatedly stated their commitment to reduce health care costs that have been spiraling out of control in the U.S. So where do we start? I would pay the PhD researchers more and the drug company business executives much less, but that’s my bias.

I have a business and every time I put my business online (like craigslist), someone either writes bad reviews on purpose or puts up another ad saying my business is really bad, I have lost 3 customers because of it. The police said just to print a copy of the false ads. How do I find out who is doing it? Or how can you trace an email to a computer. It’s only one person who keeps doing this to my business. How can I take this person to court for slandering.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!! INDUSTRY MODEL & TALENT STUDIOS
IS A SCAM!!!!

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ WHAT I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THESE PEOPLE, IT WILL SAVE YOU THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. First check out www.youtube.com and in the search box type in industry model and talent studios scam – there is a CBS news reort that happened less than 4 months ago!!!!

The way the company works is they send out "talent scouts" (mostly kids aged 18-21 who are looking for a part-time job) to various malls, movie theaters, and events throughout New York City, Connecticut, and New Jersey. These "scouts" are paid to stand at these locations!!!! AND they stop every single person they see who is with a child. They stop these people by saying something
like "excuse me mam, your son is so cute he has such beautiful eyes, have you ever considered getting him into acting or modeling?". If you say no, they will continue to tell you how perfect your child is until you sign up. At this point when the person agrees to sign up, they fill out a card with
just basic contact information. The card then gets sent to a call center where the person will now receive a phone call from a representative who will attempt to set you up with an appointment at their office in Edgewater. When you make the appointment you will show up at the office and meet with someone who is actually a salesperson and this person will try to sell you "marketing tools" which are photos of you and your child and a spot on the company’s website which they say is looked at by various agency’s. This is BS!!!!! They never provide you with you is looking at your site!

This is the part that is the REAL SCAM….When you are initially stopped by the scout, if you ask the scout if there’s any cost to sign up he/she will say "no it is entirely free". THIS IS A LIE!!!!! They will charge you anywhere from 0-,000 just to take pictures of your child to complete the portfolio. The thing is, many people fall into the trap and pay this crazy amount of money to Industry Model and Talent Studios and then…….THEY NEVER GET A CALL BACK, THEY GET NO WORK!!!!! THEY WASTED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!!!!!

A legitimate modeling agency would not ask you for money, they would pay for your portfolio and take a percentage of what you make for themselves. Oh yeah I should mention that Industry
Model and Talent Studios admits they are not an agency!!!

Once you go to your meeting with the salesperson and pay these people money you also sign a contract. The contract is very carefully written, they have lawyers present at all of their meetings to ensure that everything they do is technically legal and people can not get a refund if they are unhappy with the service. IT MAY BE LEGAL BUT IT IS NOT ETHICAL and this is how they keep your money!

The company operates under different names since so many people are now aware of the scam. They operate as Industry Model & Talent Studios in New Jersey,
NewFaces in Hicksville, New York,
InterFACE in CT, and
iTalent in other various places. Look at how similar their websites are….

http://interfacetalent.com/applynow-models.htm

http://www.industrystudio.com

http://www.italent.com

-This company has been given an F by the Better Business Bureau.
-A simple Google search for "industry model and talent studios scam" will
bring up many sites where people have complained.

I had someone call me from a cell phone that came up as unlisted. Can you reverse lookup a cell phone number for free? I see a lot of cell phone number lookup sites but they all seem to charge for the service.

I’ve worked for years in customer service/product support positions and have at least 1/2 an idea how to do the job. Now employed as an insurance adjuster, I’ve rarely had quite so many individual tasks to accomplish in as short a time as possible. Considering I’m bilingual (English/Spanish), have above average typing speed (70 wpm), and I’ve placed my on-line and desktop tools in the optimum configuration for my needs, I’m getting a bit frustrated with the continued (and now recently increased) expectation of a higher number of calls-per-hour.

Basically, I have to receive a call, review notes, examine holds, determine if they next steps require my intervention or if the customer (or other departments) need to complete further steps, search accounts, perform document reviews, use tools for product confirmation, product use in period of loss, perform identity checks, clarify conditions and terms (especially when a customer is enraged about paying a deductible – you’d be amazed how many people think insurance is a magic ‘premium only’ transaction and no matter what the cost of their insured item/service, we as the insurer are ‘wrong’ to expect them to share a partial burden in replacing items or services, even if their premiums would skyrocket), establish deductible payment parameters, shipping expectations, and answer any remaining questions – in the meantime documenting my activities, decisions, and prepping for the next call so I have NO remaining details to address prior to closing out my activity on an individual claim.

At the beginning of my training, my trainer (and supervisor) were satisfied that I was getting as few as 5 calls per hour completed. I was assured this is a normal speed for a beginning adjuster, and that with time my speed would increase to the (then) department expectation of 8 calls per hour.

Sure enough, I’ve passed the 8 calls per hour threshhold – but now, we’ve had an even higher call per hour expectation set: 10 calls per hour.

I’m not tooting my own horn when I say that I’m professional on the phone – I get above average or outstanding quality checks on performance and other metric ratings. I’m not a control freak (I don’t hang up on a customer when they meltdown – I talk them through it and give them enough information (and explanations) to (in at least 80 % of the cases) continue their claims process to deductible payment and replacement. I deal with people from many different cultures, some who have never had insurance on anything else in their entire life, and some who simply are not the sharpest knives in the drawer and bring out the educator in me (because no one should insure something without knowing exactly what their contract allows and how it applies to their claims). So it is really starting to aggravate me that in order to achieve an incentive (which is also, undoubtedly, part of the reason my supervisors and department managers are so gung-ho about it – they must in some way, receive additional compensation if the team or department achieve a certain performance metric) – I have to do ALL of the things described above in about 6 minutes PER CLAIM.

Such a cookie-cutter approach to claims (not to mention customers) is driving me straight up the wall. I’m not saying it isn’t possible (and certainly some in our department appear to be meeting this goal – but only by cutting corners or engaging in practices that ‘trick’ the metric performance measuring tools used by our employer to think more performance is being accomplished than is actually the case – and I’m not blowing smoke here, I’ve been the one catching the claims falling through the cracks in several of those situations) – but it is neither realistic or acceptable (to my mind) to expect such an ideal in dealing with the public involving something so sensitive as an insurance claim. Can you imagine? 6 minutes to do make a decision as to whether insurance coverage will be provided for a claimed product/service – and for some of these customers, it’s one of the most necessary items/services that they use in their daily lives.

I’m losing sleep now over this – even with increased exercise, better diet, and and attempt at relaxation techniques (including meditation). Part of the problem is my perfectionist nature (if I can be perfect in one way in my job, I would like to be perfect in all ways – another unrealistic (and job-fostered) expectation) – but I also realize that this is a common problem facing an American worker today. We are one of the hardest working societies in the world – yet I (like many working individuals I know) have fewer vacation days, less flexibility with my schedule, and more demands on my time at work than ever before in my life. If I miss ONE day or arrive late or leave early (no matter the reason – illness, car accident, inclimate weather, etc…) I’m no longer eligible for the incentive structure – and it takes me a month just to build 5 hours of personal t
time (which is used for both vacation days/sick time/leave time – no exceptions).

Does anyone else feel like they are losing pride/ownership in their job due to increased metric expectations? In my case, it’s getting to a point where I’m thinking about a career shift or changing departments – if such an option is available to me…

I know one called US Search, but you need to pay to get a background check. I’ve also checked out a couple others, but they all cost money for getting any more than the most basic of information about people. Are there even any that are 100% free?

I also am wondering about the legitimacy of these websites. Where do they get their data from? I’ve searched for my parents and some other adults I know, and I could generally find them (I tried to find myself in it, but minors aren’t included and I’m 17). It seemed kind of weird to me.

One other thing that I’m wondering is why there are multiple "files" (probably not the right word for it) for a single person. For example, my mother has 3 results that show up, and all are for her. Although the names can sometimes be different, some have no middle name, just the initial, or the full middle name. Why is that?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks to immigration laws that favor relatives instead of skilled workers, most of the immigrants being admitted are low-skilled. Out of all the adult immigrants admitted in 2000, 69 percent had no reported profession, occupation, or job at all.2 The average adult immigrant has only a ninth-grade education; more than a third of immigrants over 25 are not high school graduates.3
Claims That We Need Low-Skilled Workers Are False.
Some employers claim that they need to import low-skilled workers to compete in the world market, where wages are very low. But those employers have simply become dependent on cheap foreign labor to the detriment of American workers: “Network recruitment [of immigrants] not only excludes American workers from certain jobs; it also builds a dependency relationship between U.S. employers and Mexican sources that requires a constant infusion of new workers,” says economist Philip Martin.4 Such a strategy for our economy is doomed to failure anyway: “The low-wage strategy may work in the short run, but in the long run it’s a loser. In the long run, we are not going to win a wage-cutting contest with the Third World,” notes economist Vernon Briggs.5

Besides, the United States already has plenty of low-skilled native workers: “No technologically advanced industrial nation that has 27 million illiterate adults … need have any fear about a shortage of unskilled workers in its foreseeable future.”6

The effects are most pronounced in the cities where immigrants go. High immigration cities have twice as much unemployment as low immigration cities.7 Because too much immigration keeps wages low, wage increases in low-immigration cities have been 48 percent higher than in high-immigration cities.8 Thus, immigration contributes to the growing disparity between the rich and the poor in this country9 and the shrinking of the middle class.10 But the damage is not confined to high-immigration locales. The harm is carried to other cities when poor Americans whose wages have been depressed or who have been displaced from their jobs by immigration move to low-immigration areas in search of greener pastures.11

Wages Are Lowered By Competition From Immigrants.
The effect of immigration on those low-skilled Americans is profound, and the government knows it: “Undoubtedly access to lower-wage foreign workers has a depressing effect [on wages],” says former Labor Secretary Robert Reich.12 Research suggests that between 40 and 50 percent of wage-loss among low-skilled Americans is due to the immigration of low-skilled workers.13 Some native workers lose not just wages but their jobs through immigrant competition. An estimated 1,880,000 American workers are displaced from their jobs every year by immigration; the cost for providing welfare and assistance to these Americans is over billion a year.14

Large-Scale Immigration of Low-Skilled Workers Must Be Stopped.
In short, the mass importation of low-skilled workers through immigration damages the job market for Americans, depresses wages for low-skilled natives, and costs the taxpayer billions a year-all for the benefit of businesses that have become dependent on cheap, foreign labor. An immigration system that admits too many people, without regard to their skill levels or impact on the labor force, is to blame. We must reform the immigration laws to lower the level of annual immigration and to ensure that those immigrants who are admitted complement, not compete, with our native labor force.

With the digital age, it’s incredibly easy to find information about people. Employers search the facebook profiles of job candidates, etc. But parents can also check up on their kids… so where do you think parents cross the line?

Let me elaborate. I’m 20 years old, in my 3rd year of college. My mother had not met my boyfriend because she was not home, we don’t usually stop by her house, etc. She made a facebook account, told no one about it, and prowled the internet. My profile is private, not tagged in photos posted by others, etc, but she looked through all of my boyfriend’s things. Then looked up his driving record, his parent’s information, basically conducted an entire background check, knew how much his parents, house cost, the location and square footage of their property, etc.

Where do we draw the line between interested/concerned parent, and stalker?
Haha well I do live at home, but I’m very rarely there, being that I work full-time, school full-time, and just not wanting to be home. Never got into trouble as a kid/teen or any of that.
Part of it, I feel, is that she knows it creeps me out, and finds it funny. But it’s still really freaken weird, and just mean that she does it to make me uncomfortable.
Haha and yes I’m aware, I have minimal info on the internet [once it's there, you can't get it back!] but so much is public… I understand being concerned. But when my boyfriend met her, she would ask him questions that I knew full well she already knew the answers to.
Oh, he had already met my father and brother, so it wasn’t an intentional thing that she hadn’t met him.
We’re 20 and 21, both in school.
I pay for college, hence the full-time job. I live at home, but otherwise pay for everything. Insurance, food, medication, etc, saving up to move out.
No ahah there was nothing bad to find.

I have a dream to be a commercial pilot(American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, etc.). I’m in high school freshman, so I need to think about what I need to do. I searched through FAA website for medical certificate qualification. I have a bad eye vision, but I have proficient eye vision with glasses and contact lenses. I heard that I can get first class medical certificate. I really want to be commercial pilot, and that’s the only thing that I think can make me happy.

1. What are some Air Academies for no exprienced people?(Names)

2. How much does it cost(tuition) to go to academies?

3. How long does it take to be commercial pilot from the freshmen in academy to the airline company?

Please answer my question…

I had a stalker on myspace who was not someone I knew personally, but she found out my full name because it was part of my myspace url. Then, in a message that scared me to death, she posted my mom’s dad’s and brother’s names. my profile was set to private and I never ever mentioned their names. They don’t come up on a google search either. How did this person find their names? And I am positive it was a stranger, not someone I know.

I have been searching movie sites for ages, but they all require either:
1) downloading
2) filling out a survey
3) membership (which costs)
And people who say I am a fake fan, I’m not. I would love to go to the cinema and show some support for Miley and her career but the credit crunch is affecting me and my family so we need the money for other thing. Can someone please help me and give me a site which requires no downloads, surveys or membership. THANKS TO ALL WHO ANSWER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 XOXOXO

I have a friend who lives close to me with a friend of his from his home state New York, and I only have his cell phone number. He lives about 10 minutes from me, but I’m unsure if he has a landline phone.
Although I am aware that he has a roommate, I have called him to confirm, but he lives with his parents. I’m not sure what their names are, but they live right across town. I was invited over, and since his phone is partially broken, I was trying to see if there was a land line available. In no way, shape, or form am I trying to sneak onto property or anything.

I would like to at least become A&P certified.
How much should I expect to spend to attain one of these two goals..either A&P instruction or the Associate in Science degree
Please estimate for me the total cost to include everything I would need to include books, tuition, fees, tools, etc…
I live in FLorida and there are plenty of community colleges around.
I have done a Google search and found a few schools on the web…
for example;
I have been all over the Spartan Aviation School website…and I am amazed at how friggin’ difficult is to find out the cost from these people…WTF?? They are such a ripoff expensive of a school that they are afraid I will get sticker shock or be apphalled???
I sent them an email asking if tuition and fees for their school is a "secret"! haha.
If you have been through this program at a regular reasonably priced school like a community college or know someone who has..please tell me about how much I should expect to spend…I would very much appreciate your time if you would give to me a ball park estimate of tuition, fees, beginners tool set..etc…
Thank you Again for your time,
Perry in FL
P.S.
Also I would like to know if I should pursue theAS DEGREE as opposed to pursue the Airframe and power plant classes for certification only. I know some classes will be required anyway since I have no experience…so I am thinking I should just go ahead and pursue the AS degree…is thinking correct..? Thank you again.

I am going to visit Toronto shortly for a visit along with my family. How do I check whether the job market is good for my trade of Facility management? Should I go to recruitment companies / newspapers etc? Should I stick back in Canada and look for a opening? Is it costly to contact people within Totonto by phone? (In UAE we can connect to people within the same Emirate at no cost). How do I do my job survey etc to enable me settle back in Canada?

WASHINGTON (AP) – House Democrats are considering a tax on high-cost insurance plans to help pay for health care overhaul that tops President Barack Obama’s domestic agenda.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Friday the tax is "under consideration" as Democrats search for consensus within their ranks before taking a bill to the House floor later this fall.

"We just have to see how much money we need for what," Pelosi said. "And if we’re taking the bill down in cost, there are other provisions in the Senate bill that bend the (costs) curve that might be more palatable. We’ll see."

Pelosi didn’t specify what other provisions she might find more acceptable. An aide said that if the House does incorporate an insurance tax in its plan, it would probably be a more modest one than what Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., has proposed.

The House Democratic plan calls for raising income taxes on upper-income people to pay for covering the uninsured. Baucus has instead proposed a tax on high-cost insurance plans worth more than ,000 for an individual policy and ,000 for family coverage.

Proponents of the insurance tax, which Obama has endorsed, say it would help to lower health care costs by encouraging people to become more cost-conscious health care consumers.

Some of the high-cost plans are so expensive because they come with no co-payments or deductibles, and cover every dollar spent for health care. Not all of them provide such "Cadillac" benefits, however. Some are very expensive because they’re sold to companies with older employees, or workers in high-risk occupations.

If they keep this up, isn’t the golden goose gonna figure out it has wings for a reason?
Hey this is just the latest example. How many Tax the so-called Rich schemes have we seen from this crowd lately? These people are delusional if they they think there aren’t consequences to squeezing the life out of the most productive in this country!
@ "This wouldn’t be a government take over of healthcare" < Maybe not Yet but that’s their goal. Obama himself and other dems have clearly stated that that IS the eventual goal. (and I’ve fact checked this myself)

This is only a foot in the door. A first step down the road to State control of another One Sixth of our economy. I have paid attention and I’m not fooled!
@ Silus – Here you go…

Medical Tourism with SurgicalEscape

As medical treatment costs in the developed world increase dramatically, with the United States leading the way, more and more people are finding the idea of international travel for medical care very appealing. Medical tourism can provide quality treatment at a lower cost for those with a willingness and passion to travel abroad. Globalization of healthcare has created opportunities for people considering medical travel to high quality healthcare professionals to investigate destinations such as Clinica Biblica Hospital in Costa Rica, Barbados and Los Cabos, Mexico.

So Silas, what will they do? Clip the Goose’s wings so it can’t fly to Costa Rica? Build a more secure cage to keep the goose from escaping? I guess the goose has no rights in the new socialist America.
@ TK – "employee’s other sources of income exceed a certain amount, say 0,000 and the health insurance policy exceeds the national average." < Seems like just another ‘acceptable’ way to punish the productive. Why should they be punished for working harder than "the national average" ?
Hey Spike, I’d like to hear Thatcher’s evaluation of our new socialist in chief lol.

I am looking for my mom, Joan E. Johnson, who is somewhere in the Michigan area with possibly my older sister, Darlene. I have tried many web-sites but have had no luck. I am tired of all the hidden costs. Is there any web site that is totally free?? I have tried white pages.com also. I have tried reunion and people search, I am getting very frustrated. I have not seen my mother nor my sister in years and I am really hoping that someone somewhere can help me.—
